Detecting Exoplanets:  Other Worlds beyond our Solar System

Dr Annelies Mortier, Assistant Professor, University of Birmingham

Exoplanet is the name we use for planets in the Universe that are not in the Solar System.  The first ones were only found in the 1990s and now we know of more than 5000 exoplanets, showing a rich and diverse population.  In this talk I will give an historical overview of the process in detecting these exotic other worlds and highlight some of the main discoveries.
